New England Science & Sailing (NESS) is looking for a Camp Tech Assistant. This position will support NESS’s summer camp efforts working with staff and students and through a variety of duties. We are looking for a candidate who is organized, motivated, communicative, and has a desire to work with children of all ages. This individual must know how to multi-task, take initiative, and be able to work efficiently within a team as well as on their own.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supervise NESS students (ages 4-17) during the daily lunch period

Check NESS students in and out of camp each day (2 sessions per day)

Assist with camp set-up, breakdown, and overall cleanliness, and organization

Answer and record marine radio calls as needed

Adhere to NESS’s Emergency Action Plan and to all CT state camp regulations

Communicate effectively with all NESS students, parents, customers, and staff

Demonstrate a high degree of maturity and professionalism

Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Must be 18 or older

Strong communication, decision making, and logistical skills

Must be highly organized with strong attention to detail

Current American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid (may be able to obtain through NESS)

Enjoy working with adults and children of various ages

Able to collaborate and work effectively with fellow employees

Must be able to lift/carry kayaks and stand-up paddleboards short distances

Pass government background check

Preferred schedule of June 12 – August 25, 2023

The employee is frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
